Over time, dams may lose their electrical generation capacity due to the accumulation of sediment through a process called siltation, which reduces water flow through the turbines. In addition, sedimentation reduces the water holding capacity of the dams, negatively affecting the supply of water for drinking, irrigation and fish populations, and increasing the potential of toxic algae blooms.
Hydroelectric authorities and managers can rely on ROHR-IDRECO’s expertise to draw up a turnkey solution to their dam de-silting needs. We also serve as a single point of contact in ongoing de-silting maintenance, including by providing dredge masters and full maintenance programs.
